I suspect we have a RAT among us

Postby Wet Paws » Mon Jan 18, 2010 5:40 am

Without mentioning any names.......but if you are smart you may figure it out....... I received a PM from a 'good friend' that said 'Hello Friend'. The PM said I should check my PC for virus's and provided a link to do so.

I would advise all NOT TO click the link if you get this too. I have notified the admin.

YES!!
A spammer has infiltrated the PM system and send a personal message to EVERY member here. Image
PLEASE....do not open the link he/she has sent in the message, just delete it altogether.
The moderators here do not have the authority to ban anyone, so we were unable this stop this attack.
I'm sure Emma will take care of the person responsible. Image

banning a ID really does nothing
they sign up again and start all over

ban IP address works sorta

limiting what a new member can or can not do also helps

many ways to stop spammers

Your right Swack...

Most have dynamic IP address, so banning IP address is redundant.

I'm sure we are all open to suggestions on how to stop an attach like this in the future. Image

Banning a RANGE of IPs does though. This particular spammer is reportedly using a data center in the Netherlands - block that DC. Heck, using .htaccess files on the server, block whole "cottage" countries like Russia, Netherlands, Togo etc. :) There is also a phpBBS mod for this, but if CL has root access, .htaacess file mod is way easier.

About two weeks ago, I delete a spam dude that had a billion links in the message.
