Cottage Life's outdoor shower project - April '09 issue

Postby administrator » Mon Feb 23, 2009 3:16 pm

Hi everyone,

I've had a sneak peek at the latest issue (it mails out today to subscribers). There is a FANTASTIC building project in this issue - the Outdoor Shower, designed and built by Wayne Lennox.

We have some online resources for this project including two videos and additional photos. www.cottagelife.com/outdoorshower

Once you've had a chance to review the plans, if you're looking to discuss your project with other DIY builders, this is the place to post your questions to the community.

Wayne Lennox will be at the Spring Cottage Life Show, March 27-29, in Toronto, building this project and taking your questions. Also, while at the show, enter to win this project for your own cottage! The ballot box will be with Wayne in the Cottage Workshop in Hall 3.

Enjoy and be sure to post some photos later in the year when you get your building done!

Hi Sharon,

To attend the CL Show is about a four hour drive, which means that we are not going to attend.

You wrote: "...enter to win this project for your own cottage!" Can I enter even tho I will not attend?

Thanks,

Tony

Hey Tony!
What's four hours? We're probably going to go and it's almost five hours for us!!!
You won't regret it!

Sharon - Canada Post must be amazing (can't believe I'm saying that) as I got mine today (Mon. 23rd) -- looking forward to a glass of wine and a quiet look see.

Got mine today, Feb 23 as well.

Hey Tony, what's four hours drive. I drive six to get to the cottage and I'm sure you do too, if not more.

Tony, why not drive the 4 hours to the show and 4 more to the cottage for a spontaneous over-nighter. Just go in for the night and rough it - no heat , water or at least not much of either.

Or as I recall you are on an island?? Maybe not a great idea for the end of March with the ice conditions.

The spring show is awesome.

Hey WP,

I'm glad that you were thinking of me. Yes, from Detroit to Toronto is about four hours and four more hours to get to the Rideau Canal System.

My guess is that the lake is still iced covered, so getting to the island wouldn't work out. But, I like your thinking anyway.

I read the on-line version. Some good articles. The chairs were interesting.
And the porcupine thread was mentioned. Ha!
I dispute a couple items in the boat advise article though. There is nothing wrong with a properly done job of shrink wrapping a boat (they are not hermetically sealed). Vents are added to dissipate any moisture accumulated, just like your attic in your house.
Also one of the fellows suggested a water pump be replaced in your engine annually. Every 5 years would be a more realistic time frame.

Feeling left out - my copy has not made it to BC yet... However it's probably a good thing as it is "report card weekend" so I'd never get any work done if it were here!

I keep walking out to the mailbox every ten minutes and still no CL.

Sorry, but it's time to go down again to see if it finally arrived.

There's been some letters to our office about the grey water issue with this project. You can read an excerpt on Penny's Blog
